An Introduction to DevOps

DevOps looks at software development practices and IT operations as a holistic process. In general, it establishes a culture where we get software to the users rapidly, frequently and more reliably.

The latest research shows that high performing IT organizations deploy 30 times more frequently with 200 times shorter lead-times than traditional organizations. They have 60 times fewer failures and recover 168 times faster.

In this course our focus is on:

  • Social Psychology: Theories around human motivation and organizational design

  • Agile: With a specific focus on continuous delivery
  • Resilience: Recovery orientated computing
  • Systems Thinking: Understanding the Cynefin model and Senge’s Systems Thinking Framework

  • Lean: The importance of value streams, waste elimination and Kanban.

Information Technology Leadership

The purpose of this module is to provide business and IT professionals with an introduction to the role and responsibilities of an IT manager and/or Chief Information Officer. In addition, the course will demonstrate that a combination of technology, people and business skills are necessary to be an effective IT leader.

An introduction to Information Technology Project Management

This course serves as an introduction to the discipline of IT project management. By looking at all the areas involved in IT project management, a holistic view can be formed of all the different aspects of delivering successful projects.

The course follows the broad Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) outline:

  • The project management context
  • The general project management process groups
  • Project integration management
  • Scope management
  • Time management

These courses are done in conjunction with the University of Johannesburg’s Academy for Computer Science and Software Engineering and the Department of Applied Information Systems.
